Capital To Capital

Opportunities to demonstrate television at its best are rare. "Capital to Capital" has afforded ABC News this opportunity, holding the potential for the first sustained dialogue between Soviet and American political leaders.
That the Soviet Union opened its society to public debate and criticism before a live Soviet and American audience is absolutely without precedent, and is perhaps the greatest testament to the historic importance of the series. Between 120 and 150 million viewers comprised the Soviet audience. Consequently, the impression that we leave on the Soviet people about American society and the extent to which we affect the public opinion within the Soviet Union will prove to be the impact of "Capital to Capital."
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we at ABC News are involved with "Capital to Capital." This broadcast represents to us an important new stage in the development of television as a tool for greater international communication and understanding. In this regard, we look forward to a continued productive relationship with members of the United States Congress, as well as other national and international leaders, who have made an invaluable contribution to our efforts.
